I'm a Muslim female who was absolutely loving playing Everlong, so I was very disappointed to see such ignorance and hatred towards my religion depicted in the game. A computer game should be entertaining but this one made me feel like I was punched in the gut. Everything else about the game is phenomenal which makes the offensiveness stand out even more, imo. I just don't understand it.

If this is a serious post, all I can advise is ignore what you don't like or don't play. This is a free game with the intention of being a fantasy world; therefore you don't have to play it and nothing in it represents real persons, places, things, religions, or whatever. If people choose to interpret something as offensive by relying on connotation (personal meaning) rather than denotation (actual meaning) that is their problem and it's out of my hands. It's no an excuse, however, to force or promote censorship or blame others and shift guilt onto them. That said, you failed to say anything about what offended you in the first place or why it did, so everyone else is just left wondering. If I had to guess, I would say the Osama side quest is the only thing I can think of since it has cultural similarities to certain Islamic areas of the world. Keep in mind, however, that most of the world's Muslims are are in Indonesia and do not wear turbans or look anything like the "Arab" characters that are part of Jihad central. If anything, that side quest is simply a spoof on terrorists, not Arabs or Semitic peoples or any Muslims, and has absolutely nothing to do with anything else in the game or the real world. Therefore, it makes no sense to link any of this to the real Islamic religion or its followers (Muslims). It's satire, and if you can't handle it and only see a hate message that isn't there and was never intended, then STOP playing.

Whoa...guys. Let's watch the rude attitude. I agree, it's just a game and it's not a big deal to me either, but she said she loved the game and politely stated that she didn't like one part of it. No need to be rude to her. She gave valid input that the maker of the game can choose to use or ignore next time another game is made. Input is always good.
If I were Muslim (although I am not) I would feel stereotyped by this game. (Most poeple feel slightly offended when stereotyped.) I personally found it amusing, but I can certainly see how someone would validly feel offended. Trid, there is nothing wrong with your comment. Thank you for posting it.

ChemGirl: You should also not necro-post. The last reply to this post was over a year ago. I'm going to lock it now. If DJC wants it re-opened for further discussion, then feel free to continue to comment.
