This is my first time posting to any forum and I am glad it is the Everlong forum cos I think Everlong is absolutely awesome. The story, the characters, everything is so detailed and well thought out.
When I enter a town, there are several icons at the bottom left of the screen. I've figured out that the book means I should find the green book in that town. The person would be someone I should look for. But there is one with an X, another that looks like a mini radio and I have no idea what these indicate.
Thanks

Thanks Hi there and welcome to the boards, though these are more help forums then actual realms of discussion. Some players have made all sort of guides and walkthroughs, though I do not believe any are complete or up-to-date. It's kind of hard when keep putting out new versions. The next revision, for example, will be making drastic changes rendering all previous guides obsolete. Depending on what version you are playing right now you want either the RM2K (old) walkthrough board or RM2K3 (current) walkthrough section. Or you can just post questions in the discussion area, like this one, though this is for the older version 2.x and before. The current 3.x forums are in the rm2k3 section. Anyway, let me answer your question. The thing that pops-up when you enter a location is the Finder Display. You are correct that the people that show up are NPC characters you can recruit aboard your ship or airship once you obtain one in the plot. But what about the other stuff? Well, that X is for Captain Jack's buried treasures. He is an NPC you can recruit as I just mentioned. Once he's aboard your vessel you can talk to him and he'll send you to find his treasure. When you go inside the area where his treasure is, the X will turn red so you know you're there. He also gives you a clue so it's not as hard as you might think. The "radio" looking thing is a Memory Beacon, another item you hunt for via quests from a different recruitable NPC. It also lights up when you're in the correct area for that particular hunt. There are, however, 3 different memory beacons that are always at the same location and can only be acquired once. These upgrade the shops on your airship and are not part of the hunt mini-game. I really ought to change that graphic to something that makes more sense.

Thanks for the quick response - I'm using V3.13 so I guess this post is in the wrong place.
Anyway, I'll proceed on in the game and see how I fare. It is definitely getting tougher and these forums/walkthroughs have definitely made my playing of a game an enjoyable experience rather than a frustrating one.
Can't wait for the new version to come out (that is, if I survive this version).
