HI. Still fighting a losing battle with the gold dragon. The posts here and in the walkthrough suggest that I use the regen spell. Drakeor doesn't have this. Am level 71. Don't have any mirror armour and I couldn't find it available at the battle arena. Strategy or just good luck will suffice. Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Snow

Thanks Snow The Regen skill scroll used to be in the upper stories of the Tower of Auctus which you access when you return there. It has since been moved to Viridis Mons, a later dungeon on the Forgotten Continent. It was too powerful a spell that early in the game and also too important to leave in Auctus where if you miss it then it's lost forever since you cannot come back to get it. The Mirror Shield is even later in the game towards the end of Nemus Aevum, the mega-dungeon. So you cannot use either of these items if you try to defeat the Gold Dragon before you go to the Forgotten Continent. This makes it a very tough battle, but not impossible. Expect to burn through a large stock of potions. If you haven't done Leviathan's Caverns yet, now might be a good time. There are some good items in there, and you'll find some more X-Potions which is what you need in this battle to restore your health to full quickly. You may also want to use some elixirs when Drakeor is low on both HP and MP. Try and make sure your Speed is above 85 so you're faster than the Gold Dragon. He doesn't like Ice elemental damage, so if you can I suggest forging the Partisan weapon at Costa del Sol. Use Spear Rain to lower his spear resistance, then regular attack with the Partisan for some nice damage. Make sure you use Jump to Dispel Might off the Gold Dragon immediately, otherwise he'll deal crazy damage. Conditions you'll face include Bleed, Power Break, and Daze. If you're attacking physically to do your damage, you've got to keep Power Break off of you. Bleed you can take care of with Chakra. Daze you may just have to deal with, so always try to keep your HP high enough that you can survive 1-3 normal attacks in case you get immobilized. It's also a good idea to learn the Gold Dragon's pattern: Sneeze -> Expose Wounds -> Bite -> Overpower -> Shatterclaw -> Gold Breath -> Safeguard heal up to full before Expose Wounds to give yourself a free turn to take no damage and attack. Otherwise it's really going to hurt, especially if you've taken significant damage beforehand. For Overpower just try and equip the armor with the most defense you can without compromising your speed. Shatterclaw would remove your Regen if you could use it, so don't worry too much about it now. For Gold Breath I suggest using the DEFEND command to halve the damage so you don't have to heal quite so much afterward. Don't waste an X-Potion when a Chakra, Hi-Potion, or Fruit will do the same job but cheaper. After Safeguard you need to recast Spear Rain to inflict the weakness to spear attacks again. One last but important thing. In this version the Gold Dragon probably still has a low Backfire trigger. Therefore, you need to be careful about how much damage you deal in a single blow. Thus the Partisan might NOT be such a good idea to use if it's triggering Backfire, because this will make the fight impossible since you'll take way too much damage. You can try just relying on Spear Rain for damage, using another spear weapon, or not using Spear Rain in conjunction with the Partisan if this is a problem. Good luck!
