After playing around a bit, I decided to go to the ice caverns leading to the dwarf castle to further the story.
And when going through the menu, I tried to select Options. It gave me error 'The file Options_Main_BG cannot be opened' and crashes instantly. Also whenever trying to look at the map, change party or open skill shards in the ice cavern, it tells me I can't while an event is running for some reason.
Also, is there a way to start the game in windowed mode? Having to shift it out of windowed mode each time is getting a bit tedious. ):

It's possible not everything in the patch was extracted to the correct location, depending on your zip program settings (need to use paths). Try navigating to your Everlong/Pictures folder, see if you can find that file in there, then attempt to open it. If it's not there, you know a mistake was made in extraction. If it doesn't open, delete the file, then extract a fresh copy from the archive again. Some rooms that have puzzles or other active events won't allow you to use the map, party maker, or other game system that technically teleports you away and resets the map upon your return. This is to prevent exploiting this resetting to easily complete puzzles and get the bonus chest rewards. When you exit that room into one without an active event you should be able to use those systems again. If not, then I need to know the room it started in so I can figure out where to insert reactivation line of code. Here's a link to some instructions on how to get the game to load in windowed mode among other things: rpgmaker.net/tutorials/109/

Ah, I see what the problem is. I have both a Picture and a Pictures folder. Picture was from before this patch, while Pictures was the folder in the patch. Pictures doesn't have all the images in Picture.

It was actually my fault, I misnamed the folder in the patch "Pictures" when it's supposed to be "Picture" and has been for every other install. I went ahead and corrected the patch so any players that download and extract the files should now avoid this problem. Thanks for your help in getting this cleared up and fixed.
