Hello everyone! Nice to meet you all. I am a new member here and a fan of so-called old-style RPG games out there. I tried Everlong out a long time ago, but I stopped playing at a certain point because I just couldn't get past a certain battle. Eventually, I got tired of it and deleted the game. However, several years later, I want to try out the game once again, since I used to love the story, graphics, puzzles and battles, all very varied and interesting. I have a problem, though. The installation of the game and the patch are no problem. I use the latest version of both the game and the patch (that would be version v3.23 of the game and version v3.24 of the patch). However, at a random point in-game, my controls stop working. For example, when I push on the arrow buttons on my keyboard, the cursor in-game doesn't move anymore, forcing me to push Alt+Enter to switch the game to windowed mode to be able to shut it down. This is a recurring problem and it is annoying me, because I have to re-install the game over and over again only to find out that the controls stop working at a certain point. Does anyone have the same problem? I use a relatively fast PC, so it can't be my machine's fault... I would really like to get feedback on this, since I want to start playing Everlong again and enjoy it like I used to Kind regards, Snowflake126

I think I might have even encountered this before myself and received similar complaints from other players in the distant past. Is it always at the same point in the game that the controls stop responding, or random each time? Does restarting the game and loading your save help, or restarting the computer?

First of all, thank you for your fast reply! As for your question, the controls stop responding randomly...somtimes while just walking, sometimes during fights...it is very annoying, since I have to remove all of the game every time and re-install it. Restarting the game and loading my saves doesn't help, neither does restarting my computer. I have already tried installing the game at several locations, like Program Files (x86) (default) and Program Files...neither location made any difference. At some point it's just done and over with. I have tried not installing the patch (I thought the problem could concern the patch) but then the main menu doesn't work, so that is no option either. I have also tried deleting the music folder (I thought it could be a lagging music file) but this also doesn't help... I'm a bit at a loss right now...but in any case thanks for the help you already gave me

It won't have anything to do with the installation location, applying the patch, or the music folder. No need to worry about those.
When you reinstall the game, are you able to load your old save files from the previous installation you just removed, or do you have to start over because otherwise there's still no control?
Are you using a game controller, or just a regular keyboard and mouse with no special hotkey software? Vendors sometimes include extra software or have built-in hotkeys, especially laptops. You can try unplugging the keyboard and then replugging it during gameplay or after you exit the game. I seriously doubt this is the problem, though.
What I really think is going on is the game engine is not only refusing input but also permanently writing this state onto some files. Not much I can do besides switching to another engine, which is in the works, but still far off.
One thing you can definitely try is backing up a fresh copies of the following files: RPG_RT.exe Harmony.dll JRE32.dll RPT_RT.exe.bak RPG_RT.ini RPG_RT.ldb RPG_RT.lmt
When you lose input control, copy and paste the fresh version of these files over the game copies in your Everlong folder. That might restore functionality, and it's easier and faster than reinstalling the entire game. Let me know if that works, good luck!

Ah, ok...well, I was just trying out different things to find out the origin of the problem, hehe. Yes, when I go to the compatability folder (where my saves are usually stored) and replace the new savefiles from the new installation with my previous savefiles, I can load them. But as I pointed out before, it doesn't take long before the problem occurs again I am using a regular keyboard and mouse. The keyboard is built-in (I use a laptop), but the mouse I usually connect through a USB-port. But I don't think the problem lies within either keyboard or mouse...never had problems with either of them... And with fresh copies, do you mean files from a new download? Like downloading the game again and using the 'new' files in that download then?

By "fresh copies" I just mean copies of those files from an installation before the error occurs. So you would do a new installation, the bug isn't present, and backup copies of those files somewhere else on your computer. Then if the error happens, copy and paste those backed up files over the ones in your main Everlong folder and see if the problem is fixed.

Ah, I see...thank you!
Well, this is what happened...the error occurred again, so I did what you advised me to do... I replaced the files you mentioned with new ones from another installation of the game whom I did in a seperate map on my desktop...so now I got two installations...one in my Program Files (x86) and one as a backup in a map on my desktop...I replaced following files in the map in Program Files by copies from the game installed on my desktop:
RPG_RT.exe Harmony.dll JRE32.dll RPT_RT.exe.bak RPG_RT.ini RPG_RT.ldb RPG_RT.lmt
The problem is indeed solved...but now another problem has occurred...I can't access my savefiles anymore...well, I have a backup file of savefiles, but I mean that there is no compatability folder anymore in Program Files...even though I have made some saves from a newly started game (after which normally a compatability folder should appear on the task bar on top of the screen) I have already come relatively far in the game and I don't want to start all over again...
Again, thanks for the help!

Are you not playing on a Windows system? I have no idea what you mean by a "compatibility folder."
You should only need the game installed once, and then store extra "fresh" copies of those files I listed somewhere else.
You don't want multiple installations, because then you have to move your save files around too. The saves should be able to remain in the main Everlong folder where they get created. When the error occurs you just copy and paste those backed up files into the game's installation folder. The saves will still be there, and should be selectable when you restart the game and choose to load.
Wherever you have a working RPG_RT.exe, which launches the game, you should be able to move your save files into that folder and load them. When you save files should be created in the main Everlong folder called save01.lsd, save02.lsd, or whatever slot you saved in.
