I downloaded this game yesterday, and was really enjoying it, but then I arrived at the refuge. Every enemy encounter ends with a defeat. What am I doing wrong, please? That's a bizarre bug. Are you winning the battles by defeating the monsters but then receive a game over regardless? Or do fights automatically stop and result in a game over before you take action? Neither should be possible given how the engine processes events, and the fact if you fall in random encounters the game doesn't end. You can send me your save file via email (everlongrpg@gmail.com) and I'll see if I can replicate the error. Save files are located in your main Everlong folder, wherever you installed the game. They are named Save01.lsd though that number part depends on the slot you saved in.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I seem to have misstated the problem I'm having. I don't think there's a bug. It's just that it's almost impossible for me to win an encounter here, I get poisoned, and despite using heals and items, just gradually lose all health points for all characters and die. Game is over, then purgatory, then fight again and die. I did eventually win one encounter right in the first scene, but was then defeated at the treasure chest/spirit when I went there with the butterfly. Do I need to go somewhere and level up a lot perhaps? Or are these perhaps really hard battles meant for more experienced or dedicated RPG players? I wouldn't have been so surprised if the previous battles hadn't been rather easy.

Ok, I was worried but it's not that bad. The regular battles in Eridwell's Refuge shouldn't be that much more difficult, though red chest battles are meant to be challenging. You do need to have the best equipment available, activate new skills in the Skill Shard System, and use them in battle. Especially Meredith's healing spells. You also have Brad's Heal Blade and Sammy's Mantra to help with restoring HP and removing poison. You can try gaining levels outside the forest on the world map, but there are level caps throughout the game that prevent you from going too many levels above the expected average. You can also switch to Story Mode on the world map and skip battles altogether if you just want to progress past a tough section.

Thank you very much for the tips. Though I can't quite believe it, I had stupidly overlooked Sammy's spell, which helped a lot. I went back to my save this morning and went through the refuge with no problem, and in fact the enemy groups I encountered were nothing like as strong as that first one. I'm so happy to be able to get back into this great game.

I think there are a few tough battles in Eridwell's Refuge that involve the manticore. Many dungeons have one or two super monsters like that, which are difficult to take down but offer high rewards. They are usually rare encounters, however, and shouldn't impede progress.
