can anyone help me figure out how t make the game full screen? it's just occupying the centre of the monitor, and changing the screen size in game alternates between small and smaller. I used to play this game a while ago but never finished it. can we make it so that it fills the whole screen?

You should be able to change to fullscreen mode using the F4 key. Pressing F5 only alternates between windowed modes. There's also two launchers for the game. One starts in windowed mode, the other should default to fullscreen. If that doesn't work, right click on the executable file, choose Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and try using some of the options to force fullscreen.
Hope that helps!

F4 changes from "fullscreen" to "window" where fullscreen = the same size as a window with a black border. F5 changes between the same size as before with a black border or smaller with a black border.
I'm talking: it's really small too, probably only 1/3 the width of the screen.
played with the properties tab with no effect. which version operating system should I get it to run from? I'm on windows 7
is there somewhere in windows that I can change the resolution settings?

I've been using Windows 7 for years without a problem, so it's not the operating system. It might be the graphics drivers default to displaying it as a window. I don't know if you want to scale your desktop resolution every time you want to play just one game, but in Windows 7 you can right-click the desktop and choose "Screen Resolution" from the drop down menu.

alt + enter does the same thing. window to black border thing. I found the windows 7 resolution thing and strangely, it does exactly the same thing too, (when I switch to a lower resolution, it just shrinks the screen and gives me a black border, the mouse can't go outside the shrunken screen) so it must be a graphics driver? what can I do about that?

You don't want to change your video drivers other than to update to the newest version. They're too important for the entire system and other programs to run correctly. I'm out of specific advice, but the last things I might investigate would be display driver settings and even monitor settings. When you change the desktop resolution it should still take up the entire screen, not waste space with exterior black borders. Something is wrong there.

you know that once randomly, the game loaded into fullscreen and played normally. but the next time it was the same again (small). I had changed nothing (that I am aware of) and nothing since then. stranger things have happened?

One other thought I had was your monitor may be set to output in "dot by dot" mode, preventing resolution changes from making a difference. You might investigate the settings on your monitor and see if you can change the view or display mode, either so that it adapts to the computer's output or if it has a stretch screen ability.

I have been having the same issue with windows 8. Game loads into a small box surrounded by black screen. I will mess with settings some to see if I can figure it out.
