I think this is the best RPG I've ever played, the storyline is great! It doesen't get repetitive, and I think that is quite an achievement for such a huge game. And there's a lot of cool little details, such as the raised hand when they're teleporting, and the look of panic in the caracters when a new boss appears, and lots more!
I'm at the Phoenix cave now so I'm getting close to the end of the game *sob*.

I like this game very much, however I will say that I like the characters in Aveyond and Prophecy better... for some reason I just seem to relate more to them, and I really don't have much feeling for the characters in Everlong.

I am really enjoying Everlong. I played Aveyond and enjoyed it but Ever long does a better job of leading you in the next direction without giving too much away. The puzzles are difficult but with some work, I can figure them out. The real difference to me is in playing time. I finished Aveyond in a few days and I have been playing Everlong for weeks and I am still not finished.

StealthBunny: I agree with you. Aveyond is a the best game I played. I enjoyed it a lot. In fact, that game made me to get hook up with rpg games. From its site I got the link to everlong and started playing it. Initially I also felt the same way as you. I very much wanted to relate the game to aveyond. But as I moved on, I was completely taken by the story of Everlong. It has pretty huge world and characters. I loved the whole concept of twist and turns in the game. But I also agree with mushystuff. While I finished playing Aveyond in a couple of days. Its been over a month now that I am playing Everlong and still I am enjoying every bits of it. It fascinates when you find a whole new world when you least expect it to be. We feel like we have finished the game when we have only gone half way through. So I would say Everlong is the best of the best game. and I will give 10 out of 10 for it.

Bee: same here. I got hooked on rpgs through playing Aveyond. Right now I also have a game of Ahriman's Prophecy going, besides Everlong. But Everlong is a great game in itself. I love it.

I love it. Like a lot of others, I played Aveyond 1st, then Ahriman's Prophecy, and then came here (after I got stuck in Ara Fell in a computer glitch where I'd have to start all over again - augh!)
I really got hooked on these RPGs from Aveyond, and I'm glad that that site recommended this game, b/c I am really enjoying it. I agree with a lot that has already been said: I could relate better to the characters in Aveyond, but I finished that game pretty quickly whereas I'm still going at this one and it's been wks now.
I like the shard system, where I can choose the skills I want a character to have. I like the storyline, and how it keeps me interested and going. Sometimes I wish they wouldn't "talk" so much, esp. if I need to restart a battle, but I have to go through the whole blah blah 1st, or the fact that I can't save at those points (like if I have to quickly leave the computer, and hope that no one gets on in the mean time). Also, I think having a journal, esp. for side quests, would help. I find that I have a lot of notes now, and sometimes I forget that I wrote something important down about some area that I visited, only to find out later that I have to return. And then I have to hunt and hunt for the town, b/c I can't remember where it was.
But the more I play it, the more I love it. I am addicted now and my husband is totally annoyed. ;D

For the most part I love EverLong, the only thing that took some getting used to was to ignore the advice to hurry to the next destination- because if you do you miss books and treasure. Don't believe it until the timer starts.

Like many of you, my introduction to RPG games was Aveyond, followed by Ahriman's Prophecy and Arafell. And I was referred to Everlong through Amaranth forums. I thoroughly enjoy RPG games, because there was a storyline, missions to complete (each quest sometimes uncovering more quests), so there was drive to go on. Aveyond had a complete walkthrough which I totally relied on, and the game served as a teacher to RPG games. I doubt if I will enjoy Everlong if it was my first; I think I would be very lost at what to do at all.
One problem I have in real-life is lack of sense of direction, i.e. it takes me ages to learn to find my way around even though I have been to a place umpteenth times. So you imagine how lost I am in Aveyond wandering around, retracing my steps without realizing it, lol !! But in Aveyond and Ahriman's Prophecy, you can see the monsters, so you can try to evade them if you're exploring the place, and the dead corpses serve as indicators that I've been to a place. Everlong's random encounters with enemies are often very disruptive in my train of thoughts and after a battle, I cannot remember whether I should be going right or left or up or down :-p So I find myself unintentionally going the wrong direction, and then turning back upon realizing it, and only to be waylaid by more monsters and getting totally confused. I can laugh about this now but you can imagine how I tore my hair out as I was trying to figure out the switches in Everlong's East tower.
Two things that kept me glued to this game -- the great community and the great game design. This game beats Aveyond, AP etc. hands down in terms of complexity, the sheer size of the map and quests and the many interesting puzzles. To say that I'm impressed with DJC for producing this game is an understatement. I'm curious ... what do you do for a living, DJC? I don't mean to pry. But just think: it takes me months (weeks for some) just to play the game. How much longer it would have to take DJC to compose the storyline, design the map and layouts of the towns, devise such intricate puzzles that for some of them, I had to rely on the forums to solve them, and test the parts that they work properly. I have never played final fantasy, but even if some elements are copied, it is no mean feat to weave such a lot of different types of puzzles into a complex storyline.
This forum (and community) is an essential companion to the game. Without the selfless dedication of DJC and other members who take time to answer questions promptly, and now to compile all sorts of info and walkthroughs, I couldn't have made it so far in the game (I just finished Nex Cacumen. Now on to Atlantis and the last dungeons ...) I don't know whether to call the community a companion or component, but I firmly believe that a big factor of Everlong's popularity is due to the community. To be fair, the community at Amaranth forum is great too.
So if you ask me, not only is the game great, but the community/forum too!
A happy player, Boo
