I find it lot easier to defeat grand dragon than other earlier. May be because Drakeor was at higher level with higher HP by the time when I went there. So don't worry and fight as usual. Don't forget to heal HP and MP more often.

Here's some tips I posted in a previous thread:
The Grand Dragon is one of the toughest battles in the game because you have to do it solo with Drakeor. There are some pretty important keys in this fight:
1) Defend against Grand Dragon Breath: use the Defend command every time this attack is coming to halve the damage. He begins the battle with it and will ALWAYS pause before casting it again.
2) Elemental defense: the Grand Dragon has many elemental attacks. Equip Drakeor with the Mirror Shield/Protect Ring/or some other equipment combination that halves damage from all elements. Then cast Aura in battle to practically negate all these elemental attacks.
3) Dragon weapon: use a weapon with the Dragon attribute to deal 999 damage each turn and put the Grand Dragon down quickly. Examples include any Ultimate Weapon (such as the Murasame), Dragon Sword, Star Sword, or Brave Sword.
4) Use items to restore HP: chakra probably won't be enough, you spend too many turns healing. It's time to start burning X-Potions like there's no tomorrow. Don't worry, you can always synthesize more at the Master Forge.
5) Try and have some protection against critical hits and make sure your Agility is 350+ at the very least. Rabbit's Foot accessory, Tin Armor, Titanium equipment will all help boost your speed. Use some combination to at least get on par with the Grand Dragon's speed.

I'm very impressed with anybody even reaching the grand dragon. So far, I keep getting blown out of the water by the first sentinel of the white dragon. ..

I also just defeated the grand dragon. He is easier than the white, black and even gold dragon. For one thing, there are no puzzles or other sentinels guarding him ... you just enter the doorway and there he is.
It helped that I have a protect ring to ward off all elements, adamant armor (I got the battle armor and immediately left the ship graveyard to forge adamant armor) and some hero drinks to speed up drakeor's speed. I also found that Excaliber does more damage than dragon sword ... dragon sword gave 600+ HP damage even at critical hits.

Excalibur is like a pseudo Ultimate Weapon. It's Attack is lower and it doesn't have all the weapon attributes to exploit enemy weaknesses, but it still has 450 Attack Power and a 50% Critical. It can pump out a lot of damage. The Dragon Sword by contrast is 375 AP with a 13% Critical. The damage gets tripled vs dragons, but that will be less than an Excalibur critical most likely.

When I defeated the Grand dragon he always attacked before I could so defend, so another option is to use X-potion to heal the damage in your first turn before he attacks.
I found quadra slice to be very effective and to keep Drakeors HP above 700.

HOW DO YOU EQUIP A SWORD WITH HIM

HOW DO YOU EQUIP A SWORD WITH HIM This is the forum section for the older version of Everlong where Drakeor could equip swords. If you are playing the newer version (3.x), however, he can now only use spears and axes. The Grand Dragon battle is also significantly more difficult and different in the new version than the old, so don't attempt to use strategies from this section for the new version.
